Thanksgiving

Dear Friends:

What happened to summer? I can’t believe it’s Thanksgiving already! I still have all my yard work to do. For those living in apartments or condos, that is the outside work you do on a beautiful fall day, as the leaves gently swirl around, the Canada geese honk overhead and you contemplate the gentle move into cooler weather.

This year it looks like I will be planting my fall alums in the mud, and humping the deck furniture away in the rain. Forget my grass, it is just too wet and I missed that chance. (I think I am a bit grumbley today!)

We have been asked to carry a small brush to clean the plastic or stainless steel straws. Sounds like an easy thing, but proved to be a bit more complicated. I found a small supplier who had it and it is aptly titled Sports Bottle Straw Washing Brush.

I could not understand why a rinse under the hot water tap does not suffice, until someone told me you need the brush to clean a straw after a smoothie. Oh, I was just thinking about cocktails.

We have some new lunchbox items. These are aimed at the “sophisticated” adult, rather than the “cutesy” child. There is a Bento Box with three compartments for an assortment of little things and a Lunch Pot for saucy/soupy/creamy things. The latter has a separate container at the top for things you want to stay crunchy.

To go with this is a set of cutlery in its own carrying case. And I mean real cutlery – metal and with some weight – not just a plastic fork and spoon and a knife that barely makes a slit.

The lunchbox items come in the three colours to match the cutlery.

Finally we have Reusable Snack And Sandwich Bags. These used to come only in cute kid designs, but the marketing people must have finally realized not everyone wants to look like a parent, using the bags their children have deemed uncool.

So now the Snack Bags are in adult designs and colours. You can really be coordinated! Its like having all your luggage match, a goal I have yet to achieve.

I don’t know about you, but lunch is important to me. Yes I have the ugly occasional leftover, but most days I bring good stuff that I look forward to eating.

See you at Scoop N’ Weigh, the Candy Store for Grownups!

P.S. A Bento Box is a reusable Japanese-style lunchbox that holds a single meal consisting of a main course and side dishes. Or more plainly, it is a lunchbox with dividers.

I hope your lunches look this cute and you spend time cutting melons in the shape of stars (sarcasm!!). Mine is just thrown into containers, cutsey doesn’t make it taste any better.

P.P.S. Now for all you sexy guys who complain about our flowery aprons, we have these aprons. They are made of homespun linen with beautiful metal hardware and are big enough to wrap around you. They also have matching oven mitts that come all the way up to your elbows (well at least my elbows). I love the colours too, oxford blue and steel gray. This set looks like it has been washed many times and will settle on your body like your favourite shirt.

This apron and oven mitts are made for a kitchen that has stuff on the counter, not one that is all shiny and sleek.

P.P.P.S. We have had these scrubbies in the past, but they were a boring rectangle. Now they are flowers.

These are made of silicone and are safe to use on non-stick surfaces and ceramic stove tops. They clean easily, dry quickly and are dishwasher safe so there is no stinky smell.

Finally, customers tell me that when they are dry, they are good at removing pet hair from fabric like clothing or sofas. And they are cute, what more do you need!
