Meringue Powder

Dear Friends:

Last newsletter I told you about our trials in stocking Brown Rice Syrup, now it is Meringue Powder. There seems to be a shortage. We keep ordering the bulk stuff and we keep getting shorted.

In 21 years of owning the store this has never happened before, and no one seems to have an explanation for why there is a shortage either. It is just one of those things.

We did manage to get Wilton Meringue Powder in little containers, but even the large containers were shorted! And now all those small containers are all gone.

Don’t know what Meringue Powder is? It is used to make the “glue” (Royal Icing) for gingerbread houses. That is, runny white icing that hardens and sticks cookies together. It is basically dehydrated egg whites with added stabilizers, sweeteners and flavours. And MUCH easier than cracking eggs and making Royal Icing from scratch.

There are only 3 wooden barrels left and 3 or 5 caster rings, depending on how you look at it.

So the next thing we are getting rid of is the white plastic garbage cans that used to go in the wooden barrels. These are the size of a large Rubbermaid garbage can, but the difference is they are white and food grade. That is safe to store food. You can use these to store flour, dog food or potting soil. Or in your garage to organize a gaggle of stuff that is unorganizable, such as sports equipment or gardening tools. And you get a lid too.

Also the “matching” plastic scoops are for sale. So your dog food or potting soil can look spif. After all, if you know me, matching is very important!

One customer just told me she was going to use it for a rain barrel. She has organic gardens, and because the garbage can is food grade, she knew chemicals will not be leaching out of the pail.

See you at Scoop N’ Weigh: The Candy Store for Grown ups which is still getting rid of stuff!

P.S. Continuing along the lines of getting rid of stuff. We are down to the last few sets of HomeArt Dinnerware Only – two patterns and two sets of one and three sets (minus one side plate) of the other. These are originally sold for about $99.99 a set, we got a deal and sold them for $39.99 and now they are $27.99. That is a discount of 72% off the other store price!

And because I am mean, there is no discount for the set missing the plate! And I didn’t break the plate, it came that way!

P.P.S. I think I forgot to mention the Linen Sale is on; 20% off tea towels, dish cloths, aprons, oven mitts, potholders, and drying mats. You know the drill.

On until February 23.

P.P.P.S. Happy Valentine’s Day. Yes I know it is a contrived day to sell cards, flowers and chocolates, but still it is nice to know someone thinks you are special. So, if you are like me and there is an empty space for the significant other, do something for yourself. You are important to you. Me, I am ordering pizza for Tammy and me.
